Engine sounds wrong after air intake boot replacement

So I replaced my air intake boot because of the rubber hose cracking and the whistling sound it made.

Now after replacement it sounds like air is leaking on the right side of the engine, I've been round checking and tightening what I'd done and I can't establish where/if there is a leak.

Video above. Any ideas on how I can ID the culprit? It's gotten too dark to strip down and redo everything, that's my only other option first thing tomorrow.

Intake manifold being the DISA thing? I was reading about the orings failing on them.

Bonus points if you could help with a picture :?

Have you dislodged the sound generator while you were doing the intake boot? It connects to said boot & goes to the bulkhead.

Will have to double check (find it super hard to ID all these things). I can hear the engine pretty loud in the cockpit along with the whistle/whine which occurs more at certain RPMs.

It's the part to the right of the boot you've just replaced - circled in the photo below. Follow it along to the bulkhead & make sure it's fully clicked in.

Did you put some vaseline/grease around the pipes before fitting the new one?

I changed that pipe on mine at the weekend and used a tiny bit of lubrication so it sat well and slipped on easily.

I am sure I have read somewhere about Vaseline making rubber deteriorate over time....might have been a different forum...and subject...come to think of it!

It does, it's because it's petroleum based.

For a bit of lube use Fairy Liquid (leaves your hands as soft as your face) :P or some KY Jelly if you have any lying around

If nothing is to hand just use a bit of spit

What were were trying to do again ???

Went in dry lol. Don't think it's the boot or the generator. I replaced the seal on the DISA unit:

MIght have to crack out the KY and go round the seal as that's where the sound seems to be coming from. I've held up a flame though and not seen it get sucked in so it might be something more involved under the engine cover.

I might do the VANOs seals next so I can have a look at the same time. Car is running fine otherwise, just seems to be a bit of a whistle around 2k rpm.

These little annoyances are always the hardest to track down.

Widen the search to include things like the bonnet seal etc.

WD40 is the preferred method of checking for leaks.
