Hi I need to replace my engine in my 2003 z4 3.0. auto.Can anyone advise on the engine type, and what to look for Will a motor from a 330 fit?

What do you need to replace about your engine?
In other words what went wrong with your engine.
The engine from the e46 is similar in a lot of ways but not all of them.
 
If it's an M54 330 engine they're probably the same, but I don't know for sure. What happened ?

No they're not, or at least not 100%
They differ mostly in the electrics department (sensor/igintion, wiring looms and emission control) and some differences in vacuum control.
So if he replaces the block because he had a fire or so (or a very bad crash), a z4 replacement would be better because he'd have to use a lot of auxiliary parts.
But if he stricktly needs the cylinderhead/bottom end/timing case package, an e46 m54b30 donor will do perfectly, and swap all the bits that are screwed to the engine (alternator ignition etc etc).
 
I bought the car with the engine seized.(water damage)would like to buy a complete engine to replace the faulty one but not sure which would be the best option ?
 
Water damage?!?

Are you sure the ecu's are still ok? (al 28 ecu's or so....not only to control the engine but to control lights, audio, windows, gearbox, keys etc etc)

What do you mean a complete engine?
Just a block, or block+sensors&auxillaries, block+sensors&auxillaries+wiringlooms, blok+sensors&auxilaries+wiringlooms+ECU or block +sensors&auxilaries+wiringlooms+ECU+EWS?
 
Hi,

Subject of another post but I am currently breaking my 2005 Manual 3.0i. It currently has 89k miles on it and I have had it from 65k miles. Always run on mobil 1 so I am confident it is all good. It is currently still in situe (although not running because cooling pack is damaged and removed) All other running parts available too. Feel free to drop me a PM to discuss further.
