Engine pulsing/surging when driving from cold

I've noticed that when the engine is cold, driving in 1st and 2nd gear for the first few minutes results in the engine pulsing/surging.

It almost like the clutch is disengaging, then engaging, then disengaging (like a mild kangaroo/bunny hop in a manual car). This happens when the clutch is fully disengaged and the throttle is being applied steadily, just driving out of a carpark or in a quiet street, and is also noticeable if the car is accelerating more rapidly as well.

Apart from making it look like I can't drive, I'm sure it can't be good for the engine. It does go away after a few minutes.

Is it just my car that does this ? CDV has been replaced with the zeckhausen? cdv.

When cold my car can be just a little hesitant for the first 100 yards or so but no surging. From what you are saying it sounds like the throttle/choke is causing the engine to surge, might be worth asking the dealer to check it out.

mine can hesitate sometimes when cold, then comes back with a surge.. certainly less since i reset the throttle.

maybe about 3.5k.. it's almost like it has an adjustment then surges to make up for it.

covered a few times on here.

Had a chat to the head service guy at BMW, and apparently its a characteristic of the engine. A guy had an M3 in for service at the same time, and he had also experienced the same surging behaviour.

Apparently its just the engine trying to sort itself out when its cold. Hoping it won't be an issue when the weather gets warmer.
