What grade and brand of engine oil do we all use. :ilz4f:

I use the specified 'Castrol Edge 10w60 for ///M Engines'.

LOTS of threads on this, but I'm not sure how to search as "oil" is too short. I'm sure one of the fellas will be along shortly to help me out.

This has every chance of becoming a confusing thread as there are several engines from 4 to 6's pre and post facelift and of course the ///M's, that all need different oil and then different operating environments that also require different.

I am trying to take the mind of forum members as to individual preference for brand and grade, not asking for advice as to what I should use.

I have used Mobil 1 in all my recent cars and will most likely continue to do so.

Ive used Castrol Edge 0w30 before which BMW Longlife-01 spec...

for the recent service I used what Opie-oil recommended (after also checking with BMW) which was

Castrol Edge 5w30 which is a later BMW Longlife-04 spec.

thats on a 2004 M54 3.0i car

I usually top up with the official stuff from a BMW dealers (like many, my '03 3.0i SE is quite fond of a drop or 2), but it's bloody extortionate! (£18 a litre or something ridiculous!).

Going to replace it with 0w 40 Mobil 1 Longlife fully synth from Costco (as cj10jeeper suggested in that other thread, since mine is the same engine) when the time comes

OK, specifically, I use BMW engine oil as my car is still under warranty and the servicing is free.
