Engine oil leak

Hello, another day another problem. After doing some work on my E85 2.5, I took it for a quick test drive, afterwards I noticed some oil on the left side of the engine, around the oil filter housing and oil sump.
I changed the oil sump gasket and after another drive, oil still there. So after reading some posts on this forum, the next logical step would be the oil filter gasket, so I replaced that. Took it for another spin today and there's still oil presenting there.
Also, it only seems to leak when driving, I've tried revving the engine and it doesn't seem to leak.
Does anyone have any idea what else could be causing this?

I’ve done a few oil filter housing gaskets- did you tighten the 6 bolts well?

Also the oil that went to the holes in your picture will sit there unless cleaned off- may be worth a good clean off an see if it comes back

I tightened the 6 bolts to 24Nm.
That oil is fresh, I made sure all the oil was gone before I drove, it was a bit dirty still, but definitely no oil there before I drove.

That looks like the cleanest freshest stuff is along the joint by those three bolts.
Are you sure the mating faces were perfectly clean, all old gasket off etc?

Yeah, I cleaned the surfaces thoroughly with brake cleaner and clean rag as well as using a plastic scraper/razor blade thing, to make sure any dirt I couldn't see was off.

Then I think I'd try another tweak on those bolts now everything has been through a few heat cycles.

Yeah I'll have a feel of them. If that doesn't do it, I'll just replace the gasket again. Cheers for your advice enuff_zed, much appreciated

I also recommend to slightly tighten the oil filter housing bolts. I recently changed the gasket as well, torqued the bolts to spec and had a small leak afterwards on that same area. I drove the car maybe 100 km, since the leak wasn’t huge by any means, then tightened the bolts just a bit. Tiny residual leak continued for a while but then stopped. Now it’s all good :driving:
