Engine Oil Advice

I'll be carrying out an oil change shortly & wondered if anyone could advice me of any particular make, type, etc please? BMW seem to recommend BMW Longlife I. I have a 2004 Z4 2.2i auto with 18,000 miles.

Many thanks for that.

I've just noticed that Castrol recommend their Edge OW-30 oil, which costs about £73 for six litres: any thoughts on this please? Think Halfords would be just as good?

The Halfords oil exceeds BMW Longlife specifications so it may not have the fancy label but it's definately up to the job! The oil I use is 5W40 Fully Synthetic and is in a silver container.

Many thanks Curtis: I'm thinking of getting it serviced at a private garage. Should I buy the oil myself & take it to them or mention the type of oil I'd like to be used?

You better play it safe and buy it yourself. It's also worth checking that they actually put your oil in your car rather than keep it for themselves and fill yours with cheap crap. It happens!

I highly reccommend Amsoil 5w 30, really great stuff and is always full synthetic since they practically invented synthetic oils.
