Engine off, sidelights on?

Whilst carrying out my dash trim removal/refurb project I noticed that if the indicator stalk is left up or down, whilst the lights and engine are off (no key in ignition), one sidelight stays on and the other one flashes.

Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

AFAIK Most German cars are like this VW, Audi, BMW etc., Although I don't know why one is flashing ?. Mercedes have a different method of doing the same thing, It's for when you're parked on the side of the road at night !

I see. No electrical fault which is good then. The other one is probably flickering due to the bulbs. I changed the sidelights to LEDs. I thought they were quality ones but they are the square exposed type. May have to change them for the enclosed ones if anyone can recommend any :-/
