engine noise?

I HAVE A 2004 2.2 Z4 WITH 8500 MILES FROM NEW.
WHEN STARTING FROM COLD IT STARTS IMMEDIATLY AND RUNS AT SLIGHTLY HIGHER REVES FOR A FEW MINUTES. THEN THE ENGINE SPEED DROPS TO A NORMAL TICKOVER.AT THIS POINT IT SOUNDS A BIT TAPPERTY UNTIL THE ENGINE WARMS UP (ABOUT 5 MINUTES)
THEN THE TAPPERTY SOUND GOES AWAY AND IT IS FINE.

IS THIS NORMAL FROM A COLD ENGINE BEFORE THE ENGINE WARMS UP ?

THANKS

I was wondering the same thing. I have a 2006 Z4 3.0i which I bought certified preowned with less than 12,000 miles. I noticed a clicking sound which eventually goes away when the car is warmed up. I think it was coming from the pulley which the belt turns on. Should I get this checked out or is this normal? This clicking only appears when the outside temperature is less than 32*F.

from my experience from BMW assist and the dealer they will probably says it normal.

in the end the main problem hasnt come back, but when I collected the car from the dealer and it was cold, there was a slight tappet type noise, but they said this was normal.
