ENGINE MIS FIRING

Coil packs I reckon. But also take the DISA valve out to check the valve moves with the rod. Mine became disconnected. Made a rattling noise at tickover. Replaced it, the CCV valve and the vaccum pipe plumbing but still had the misfire till I replaced all coil packs. Might also have a leak in the camcover gasket. This all in a 330Ci E46. It has the M54 engine.

He's done the coils already :headbang:

Well the OP has been MIA for nearly a month now. Hopefully he will come back with a report on the CCV as that has been heavily hinted at?

The op has no vacuum in the crankcase and black soot coming out of exhaust. Has bad ccv written all over it in my book. Surprised no M54 owners have stepped up to help and check if their car behaves same as in Youtube video.

As it's been a while, I re-read the whole thread just be sure I remembered it right, and noticed the above comment. So, a little late in the day but I have now done the check as suggested on wifey's 2.5i and yes, it does behave in the same way. So that points further towards the OP having a CCV issue doesn't it.

Hi All
Many thanks for all the hints and tips so far this has been a real saga so here goes, this is a list of components I have replaced for new since all the troubles have started.
Battery, all the plugs, all the coil packs, MAF Sensor, lower boot (it had a split in the small hose) and cam cover gasket (oil leak).
This week I have replaced the CCV with the associated hoses, all the old hoses seemed to be ok but this was some yellow mayo inside the valve, but they are all new now anyway.
Whist I was changing the CCV I checked the DISA valve and it seems to be in a good condition, I also checked the Idle Control Valve and that is completely jammed, so I reckon I am getting to the source of the problem. I have soaked the valve in wd 40 and brake cleaner for a few days but I cant get it to release, so I am going to try and source a replacement, can anyone recommend a decent make replacement, once again thanks for all the help and tips they have been invaluable.

Hi All
I have finally got the engine running well the final piece in the jigsaw was the idle speed control valve. I have today replaced it for new and the engine is running as sweet as a nut. I have now noticed a drip coming from one of the coolant hoses, so that is the next job.

Glad you got it fixed,Robert....
I should have suggested that as a possible too,as they get gunked up with carbon.
Had mine cleaned around 2.5-3 years ago,and will do again next year.
Worth doing every few years,as it's not too bad to do it ,or to get done, made a difference to mine at the time, prior to my misfire in more recent times(which was coils).

Glad it's all fixed now, result.
