Engine management warning

Hi
I own a Z4 SE on a 2005 plate with 72,000 miles on the clock.
Car running well apart from yellow engine management warning symbol
. Local dealership has identified problem with Cat and has replaced sensors without solving problem. Quote for main Cat replacement is eye watering, circa £700.00.
This being my first Z4, not sure if I should get second opinion or pay up. Is this a common fault with this model?
Any advice would be welcome.
Thanks.

I had same issue and had a look round engine bay. The big hose from the air filter that goes into engine had perished. Ordered a new one from sopers in Linc's. Bit fiddly to fit but then put code reader on to clear code. That was 9 months ago and light not come back on. Hopefully will be this for you

Hi it's a 2.0 litre engine. Not sure what the code is but the BMW diagnosis report stares, " fault store for DME catalytic conversion, followed that plan, inspected catalytic converters, also exhaust manifold for leaks OK. Faults not present - fault relates to primary cat/ manifold.

I had the same issue with the engine management warning light coming on. I would reset it through he OBD port, and it would disappear for about a month and then come back on. I never got to the reason why - car has since been sold. Apparently the 2.0 engines are prone to engine warning lights. Has the code been reset?

Hi,
Just bought my Z4, eml came on after 300 miles after an "apparent" service. It's a 57 plate with 52k on the clock.
Should I be worried, or just let it go??? I have three months warranty...

I hope you've not paid for those sensors. Cats rarely fail, it would be worth buying a code reader yourself for about £30 and seeing what it throws up - you will find plenty of good advice on here that very often puts professionals to shame.

The light's gone off on its own accord. Still, it adds to the excitement of :driving:

I don't want to be the voice of doom, but it will more than likely come back on again. See my post earlier in this thread.

Got mine back from the garage today. Same car, same age and roughly the same miles. P0420 code. Catalist system efficiency below threshold. Sensors were checked and found to be fine. Emissions fine. Cat cleaner added and told to just give it some good long drives. (It has only done about 2000 miles in last couple of years by previous owner.)
