Engine management warning light on

Hello all
I have the engine management warning light on (had the same issue with previous z4). I was told it could be three things:
- spark plugs
- coil (something)
- fuel injector
What do you suggest to start with?
Thanks!

It could be a multitude of things, you need to get the code read to know where to start. If the car seems to run and drive well its unlikely it will be any of the 3 things you listed as they would typically make it run quite rough.

Could be the oxygen sensor, that was the issue when mine threw up the engine light. I didn't notice any change in the engine running/performance though.

But as mentioned above, to know for sure you need to get the codes read (either via a diagnostics machine or dongle and app on your phone).

There are so many options.

If it is a pre-facelift 6 cylinder it will have the M54 engine. My E46 Compact had that, and the only time the EML lit up I drove it a decent distance and next time I used it the light stayed off. When I got the code read the fault was with one of the hydraulic valve lifters. It never happened again, thankfully.

I think it was because I had started the car a couple of times just to move it a few feet.
