Engine management light

Hello, hope someone in the know can help!
I have a 2007 Coupe that I've owned for the last 5 yrs, it's done 44k miles. Today the EMS light has come on and stayed on, anyone have any home solutions I can try before I have to pay for diagnostics etc.
Would really appreciate some advice please,
Thanks

Loads on here if you do a quick search
Mostly to do with split air intakes if I remember correctly

You could do with the code though to be sure - you can buy a reader for less than the price of a garage check on E-bay

Mine came on whilst touring Ireland last year.
Local garage checked it was 'probably' a sensor and not limp home mode & and re-set.
They figured it was a sensor having a hissy fit due to sudden change in use - short runs to a big blast
Unfortunately 20 miles down the road it came on again

Apparently they monitor themselves and if problem doesn't re-occur in next 10-15 starts, it re-sets
Mine went out after a few days and hasn't come back on in 5 months - although there are other members who have not been so lucky :(

It could be any number of things and without reading the code you'll be poking around in the dark. Get a cable for about £25 and read them yourself if you don't want to pay for diag (who would!). I picked on up from BM Cables and it's paid for itself a good few times over now.

Let us know where you are based Nigel, there's plenty of members (including myself) who would happily use their diagnostic software on your car. It only takes five minutes, so if you are close to someone you'll probably get it done for (next to) nothing.

This might sound like a daft question but I assume the software come with the cable and you just use your laptop?

Cheers Scooba

Yes software came with it and all worked fine on my Windows 7 laptop. Diag is fine on my Win 8.1 tablet but SSS isn't working.

Thanks all, I live in Worcester but fortunately the light
Has gone off again. Thanks for your thoughts, if it comes
Back on I will do some digging.

It will still be stored so worth a look. I had a VANOS solenoid issue that was logged a few times but wasn't activating the EML.

The fault is stored in the relevent ECU and can be recalled. I'm just up the road in Droitwich and I've got the software etc, very happy to check it out or you, drop me a PM

Norman
