Engine management light

Hi guys i had the Engine management light come on, and stay on. This was about an hour aftr i drove home from work. I always let the car warm up and sit at idle before i turn off. I tried turning it off and on again still there, no loss in power as well.

Any ideas?

Could be a sensor or something else. You really need the code reading however.

As said above, you really need to get the fault read. It could be just something simple like an oxygen sensor, but there are so many possibilities to what it could be.

As long as you don't notice any real difference in the car then the light is probably an over sensitive sensor or even some slightly dodgy fuel.
It's worth investing in a cheap code reader off flea-bay for £30 or so; allows you to read most codes yourself and then cancel the light.
The stealers will do it as well and charge you £100 and then probably tell you that your O2 sensors needs replacing for another £300, so steer well clear....

Cheers guys for the replies, its a 3l si coupe, 57 plate, I've been using BP fuel not gone near any supermarket fuel, i will look down the sensor route

Just done a 10 mile drive home with no radio to try and hear any noises etc, only think i noticed was a low tone whine when the throttle is increased sounded kind of like a fuel pump, maybe wrong, it weren't loud just something i noticed, also checked the oil level, I'm one bar down with the OK message, also its BP standard stuff that i use. Thanks again

Right just looked and i think I'm being an idiot, obviously the engine management light is EML, the one i have illuminated is the "exhaust emission values"

Sounds like the same one that I have come on intermittently. I always do the paranoid listen but then nothing. It was diagnosed at the last service as nothing to get excited about and probably a sensor. I might get a code reader though.

D900 OBD11 Code readers are around £20 on a Buy It Now price on eBay including postage. Very convenient to have, read and erase codes for the EML.
