Well today driving through town my Engine management light popped on! I cant detect any power loss, the car seems to drive perfectly and there are no untoward sounds/rattles. It is booked in tomorrow but since it is short notice there is no courtesy car available and I need my car for saturday! Hope its something simple, anyone had a similar issue??

hi mate mine is in for tomorrow with the same thing is an oxygen sensor most likely i have put a topic on it.
the only thing is i had mine back due to having to order a part and the garage told me its fine to drive.

hope that helps it sounds quite a common problem

Turned out to be a 'secondary air pump' :?
Something to do with only affecting emmissions at start up temperatures and is still fine to drive. Which is just as well as I need to wait 2 weeks on the part!!

Speaking about the engine management light. I am new enough to BMW not to really know what that is, but is it the same as check engine soon light that comes on other cars? I have had that light come on; on other vehicles I have owned and have used an OBD II reader to relieve my mind as to what the problem is. They are quite inexpensive and they usually come with a booklet that describes what the codes they give really mean. I don’t know if BMW has some very specific codes or not, but I did see the port under the dash where you plug the device in. There are also many places on the internet that list just about every code that can be displayed and what to do about it. If what I am saying here is way off of what the engine management light is, please forgive me and disregard. :driving:
