Engine light is on :(

Glad you got it sorted mate! Also bravo for coming back on here with your solution, lets hope it helps people in the future!

Excellent. After watching the video i thought that engine would be a goner! Good to hear that it's fixed now.

FYI i also had lambda/O2 sensor trouble with mine. At one point it got so bad that the car stuttered a lot at under 3k RPM and ran VERY rich. As soon as i replaced the sensors it was all fixed.

Not a Z4 owner (yet ?) but had similar problem with other half's VW.
Turned out to be a split hose to the manifold - which meant more air is sucked in, weakening the mixture and causing lean running.
Smoke test and diagnostic should be available at lots of indies. If a split hose is found (and leak does vary according to how much wellie, and thereby intake pressure varies) then It might be worth temporarily (just for the few minutes of the test) wrapping some tape around the split. If it cures the problem then the split hose is the issue. But you will need a new hose

I had very similar issues to this on my Clio 172. Ive just changed the TDC sensor (following recommendations from a forum) and now everything seems to be ok. Any chance it could be a similar thing?
