Engine cutting out

Hi everyone can anyone help me?

I have a 2004 Z4 2.5, driving the other day the car just cut out, it wouldn't start but just turn over, it then started but the engine started revving slightly like it was searching and cut out, then it wouldn't start just turn over.

When the car is left for a while, it will start and run fine, after a short period cut out and again refuse to start. The longer i leave it the longer it runs when staring. The longest was about 10mins the shortest it ran was about 10 seconds.

Ive had the codes cleared and read again this is what it said

2796 Throttle postion adaption error
3C1E Camshaft signal inlet
27A1 Throttle valve starter control
28B2 Engine speed limit
5E19 CAN No communication with ECM

I would be grateful if anyone has any ideas i could chase down or even info that might rule out any of these codes

Chris

My money is on the Camshaft Sensor (like your code says, the Inlet one). If the Cam/Crank sensor fails, the car will usually just cut out, as it doesn't know where the cylinders are, and therefore doesn't know when to fire the injectors and spark plugs.

If you google "bmw m54 cam sensor" you fill find loads of other people having similar issues and many written and video guides on fitting. Its also nice and easy to replace (1 bolt and 1 electrical connector i think!) and cheap as repairs go!

Good luck and please report back

I agree with Ed, cam sensor. It is the only one of the errors that could cause the engine to stall AFAIK. The symptoms you describe also indicate a sensor issue.
