Engine Cutting Out - HELP!

Hi,

Don't know if anyone here can help me, but my 2006 Z4 keeps on having engine failure at a variety of speeds. The engine cuts out, battery light comes on and I have to restart it whilst driving. Diagnostic light came on too and I took it to a local garage, who didn't recognise the code (it was something to do with the correlation between the camshaft and crankshaft). Car is now shuddering at all speeds and totally unroadworthy at the moment.

Has anyone experienced this before with their car and can anyone suggest what it might be? I'm SOOOO gonna get stung by a dealership otherwise - they see blonde women coming at 20 paces!!

Thanks all

KP

Hi and welcome, sorry it appears you have found us under these circumstances.

I am guessing a camshaft/crankshaft sendor fault, but only a code reader would really know.

Welcome and best of luck with the repairs - as srhutch quite rightly says you need a code reader to determine the fault; either a local dealer or specialist with the appropriate diagnostic equipment.

I can't believe that last comment LOL!

Don't tell me women don't know how to use such assets......I'm sure if you went to the service desk and said "a nasty garage wants to charge me hundreds of £££s to fix it and I can't afford it...", they'd be doing their macho thing in a flash....

But if its out of warranty, theres an excellent independent up near here at Didcot (I haven't used it yet but planning to, and 2-3 members who have been there rate them very highly, as do other BMW sites apparently) who ought to be much cheaper - certainly worth a ring to get an idea of possible causes and price? Just not sure how far it is from you? Its these guys..

And when you are done, we need a Lucy-type avatar please :) You'll see what I mean.

Welcome to the forum!

Where are you in Berkshire? If you're anywhere near Reading I can recommend Didcot Autos - they've been great with my car  They started as a BMW specialist and have all of the computers... helpful too if you give them a call they may have some ideas.

Good luck!
