Strange one tonight , car started & drove perfect from cold / 7 miles down m/way then while sitting on sliproad in traffic waiting to exit it just cut out ?
Car is auto & was in drive so i hadn't stalled it  slipped into park ,restarted & no dash lights & drove perfect rest of journey to home .
Tank is a third full of Total 95 .
Anyone ever had the same on a auto Z ?

Battery and alternator OK? Or maybe just stomping its feet at you putting 95 in it ...

Haha , i,m not getting into the fuel debate , car does short trips max 40 mile a week & after trying the 98 found zero difference in performance or any shift in the 23mpg average its shown in last 1000 mile .

Did think about the battery ? i usually put it on trickle charge when it goes away on sunday nights but didn't this week :| its back on now though

My dad says he gets better mpg with v power but I think personally he winces knowing it is the cost of diesel so tries to make it last ;-) haha. I stick it in as it makes me feel special

Joking aside .. My zed has a relatively new battery in, I can't trickle charge without a garage and have found the battery discharge pretty high ... Struggles after 1.5-2 weeks of sitting there and even then if I nip to the shops in it after that kind of time and don't allow for it to charge up after its start ... It has been known to need a bump off my daily the next day!

Yeah i,m putting it down to battery , Think its still on its original BMW one ? if that's possible ? over 6 years & 90k :| i had started it to move it out of garage , then moved it so my son could wash his car then started again to go out in it , all in 7/8mins . its got some 240 trickling in as we type

On the fuel front ? when i go to france ( every 6/7 weeks) i always fill up with premium grade whilst there for the return journey (not taken the zed yet ) & get a noticeable increase in MPG over a full tank at motorway speeds , town or spirited driving then no difference whatsoever :?
The cost in france though between the premium & standard fuel is much smaller than here . usually 3 or 4 cents a litre

In fact that's exactly what was happening to my 206 gti ... Original battery at about 8 years old and it started to randomly fail to start. Then occasionally revs simply die and car stall, seemed very random but as a student lived with it until I got stuck as it stalled in st chads tunnel on B'hams ring road. New battery ...never did it again. Still going strong on 105 k :-0

I see ECP have a "spring20%" code going which means a Bosch S4 is around £65

That's a bargain. If you get it and it stalls again I'll be in hiding ! Keep it on trickle for a while and see if it happens even when saying it has a healthy charge? Lol
