Engine cover colour? - N52

Keep seeing images around of the N52 with a silver coloured engine cover (the bit you remove to get to the coils / plugs etc). Yet my car has a black one?? Anybody know why some are black and some are silver?
 
My build date is august 07 and mines black. I'm glad It's black as it looks good when the engine bay has a nice coat of dressing on.
 
The cylinder head was revised on the later black top N52 engines, to help reduce the aeration issue in the lifters that can cause the ticking noise on early engines. Also the crankcase breather is different and more integrated into the cover that the silver top version.

Really? My mates has a black cover and it's ticking it's balls off with noisy lifters have you got a source for this info?

Hi, I think your getting mixed up between the actual valve cover (black ones incorporate the ccv as you say, silver ones do not) and the plastic cover which sits on top of the valve cover which doesn't signify anything :thumbsup:

Thats my thinking too haha thought I was going mad then
 
silver cover has CCV seperate and metal rocker cover

black cover have plastic rocker cover with built in CCV

that was my under standing, mines blck and yes if not used in a while in hot weather you get the ticking

Nope, plenty of black plastic covers over the silver, made of metal valve cover.
The cam cover that has the integral ccv is made of black plastic :thumbsup:
