Engine cover change?

Just wondering. When did they change the engine covers on the 3.0l six?

This is a pic of a silver cover I noticed on the net:

and this is the same as mine:

I notice the fixing bolts are different also. My car is 2007 3.0l si.

I prefer the silver. Maybe some silver spray paint would do the trick? I'm sure the plastic doesn't get that hot; if it does you'd need some high-temperature paint.

Possibly the lower output engines have the silver cover
IDK for sure, but likely it's either model, or year of production (pre/post facelift) related

the silver cover is n52, the black is 07 on and is the n53.
n52 engine is valvetronic wereas n53 is the lean burn wich has direct injection instead. no real power difference, the 200 odd extra bar on the n53 makes up the power on the valvetronic (high lift cam profile)

I had an 06 Z4 3.0 before I bought my M, My brother in law has the same car but 07 3.0,

in 07 they changed the silver cover for the black one, even on the same engines

also the bolts are false, The covers are not attached by bolts, They are attached by rubber plug type things (technical term)
You can literally pull that cover off, No problems or breakage, I dare you, Go outside and just "pop" the cover (black or silver) off the pins holding it to the valve cover,

AND

the same goes for the BMW logo with the stripes on the intake runners, They again literally pop off without damage

I want to see someone on this board take a picture of his/her engine with this cover popped off to show what Im talking about :D

Well i was sold the car by BMW as a 3.0i se Auto

HPI check comes back as 3.0i se Auto
on the V5 3.0i se Auto

The engine is the M54.

Yours is a 3.0SE, the later [facelift N52] engines are 3.0Si, although this also confusingly comes as a 3.0Si SE :D
