Hi,

I've had an annoying bearing type whirling sound which increases with revs then disappears from around the idler pulley area on my E85 2.5 2004. I've had the water pump and thermostat replaced and have just changed the pulley tensioner, v belt pulley and idler, plus the AC tensioner pulley myself., with new belts.

Unfortunately and frustrating the noise remained and almost sounds like it's resonating from the oil filter housing.

Can I ask if anything is in or around there which I am missing. Or should I just retake the serpentine belt off to eliminate everything first.

Many thanks for looking, will try and attach a video of the offending noise

Kind regards
Jonny

Hello Jonny,
Have you changed the oil filter? Cheap ones can collapse and produce odd noises.
A cheap enough check. Get the old one out and fit a decent brand like Mann for example.

Hi, thanks for reply, apologies for missing title , to busy working out how to zip on an android. Managed to attach file of noise

Many thanks

Hi, well the oil filter was partially collapsed so it's been replaced. Was anticipating a win, but unfortunately the sound remains when engine is warm.

Will run with serpentine off tomorrow to see if goes.

Thanks J
