End of my M ownership

Why is it that so many partners seem to dictate the cars that you all own? It seems strange to me how so many capitulate to their spouses on such matters.

I decide the cars and she can decide curtains, carpets, ironing board covers and what we are having for tea. Man-up for God's sake!

LOLLLL soooo glad someone said it for me~! for fucks sake grow a pair of bollox!! but then again it seems your initial post wasnt quite accurate as you seem yourself to want to sell the car as well ;-) in that case, fine :-) Lets stop blaming our women :-)

Cayman S has similar issues with the bonnet and it's longer - I would know having told Guiseley he wasn't allowed to buy a Porsche!

M Roadster

Or just tell her to reverse park it and use it more?

Cayman S will cost more to run and maintain and less exciting to drive.

I would seriously consider trading in the girl and keeping the car.

yh mate... trade in for a newer model... with big airbags and a tidy rear end... :D

On a serious note;
Personally I'd go for B7 RS4. They are solid as a rock on residuals if you can find a nice one, plus a back row so she can take all her girly friends out. Although maintenance isn't cheap on a thumping great engine like that.

I'd have thought the TT is pretty much on the button with all the requirements, and it still has rear seats (small as they may be), although the RS is a bit pricey...

Looks-wise, each to their own

The TTS* has 272PS and it's 4x4. This makes it far more usable on british roads than the Z4 M's 340(circa)PS which are put to much better use on the track. A 2.0TFSI engine is also much cheaper to service/run.

*I have one you can test drive if you like (pm me)

The Cayman is nice but it still has a long bonnet, the GT86 - The downgrade in power I think you'll find crippling...

Sad story! Great for me, i want an imola Z4MC with CSLs and Intravee...

Lets see if i can actually afford it once you've had your last trip!

Doesnt fit with the good looking requirement, but M135i is properly quick (quicker than the Z4M) and has pretty good residuals for a new car. You can buy service packages that look like great value (£375 for 5 years / 50k miles on new 120d, not sure what 135 would cost) and in Estoril blue those looks aren't quite as bad as other colours. It's on my list as a possible replacement car this year.

Audi TT-RS sounds like it fits the criteria although not sure how the running costs are... Looks good, feels good inside and has a great soundtrack. The TT-S while slower initially can be made very quick indeed with a simple remap and when remaped can in fact keep up with a Z4 M Coupe in a drag race pretty good and the running costs should be much better than the RS.

GT86 is a bit expensive for what you get in my opinion. Unless you plan on hooning out of every 2nd gear turn you will find it boring and slow i think... perhaps with a supercharger kit... hmm...

Porsches will be OK running costs wise until something goes wrong.. Then you should be prepared for major £££.

Maybe a BMW 1M? Not sure how long the bonnet will seem but they're very quick, look good in a thuggish kind of way and running costs are reasonable i believe.

Perhaps go in a different way and get something more characterful but maybe more flawed as a result? A Cobra replica maybe? Loads of character, neck-snapping acceleration, extremely cool looks and because of old tech underpinnings should be cheap to maintain (CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG). Downsides are the fuel economy, there's not any, and the rubbish practicality.
