'EML' yellow light dilemma

This I guess has been discussed before but hope somebody here can help; I filled up with petrol (regularly use BP premium unleaded) and when I started her up, a yellow EML light came on and has stayed on. I consulted the manual and it states the car can be driven albeit it on a reduced speed. The EML doesn't appear to affected the speed or anything else, could this fuel be the culprit, seems too much of a coincidence.

The fuel you filled up with wouldn’t be in the engine the second you started the car, it sounds like a coincidence. Get the codes read & see what you’ve got.

Thanks for advice, haven't used the car for a couple of days, started it up and no light now :) (nice christmas present, thanks santa); only remaining light on is the pesky red airbag light which has been on since I obtained the car

I drove my 2nd Coupe to Donington soon after I got it and I started it up to leave then realised a quick "pit-stop" would be a good idea before I left so I stopped for that. Then I started i he car and got the yellow EML, which did not go away. :(

Took it to my Indy and he read and cleared the codes (post-cat 02 sensors on both banks) dosed it with CataClean and told me to use only Super Unleaded. He said petrol BMWs didn't like being started and stopped without going anywhere. Anyway a couple of months later I got the yellow EML back so I booked it in again and while running the diagnostics the battery died! New battery, codes cleared, more CataClean and no more problems. :)

I suspect the battery was the problem all along. BMWs seem to throw up random electrical issues if the battery is dying so you might want to check that out.
 
Damask. How often do you use the car? Daily or is it a weekender?

Had this with the M last week and the codes said it was the O2 sensor on bank 2. Cleared the code with my mates reader and Carly and took her for a decent blast.

Code has not re-appeared. Filled up with Super as a tank of 95 Ron was still half left from a trip to Scotland in October. She has been in and out of the garage as she is generally in the way of my hosepipe connection.

She's been moved a few times without actually getting warm and sits on a charger. This i think was the main reason for the code but time will tell.

Have noticed it's slow to start on a morning ( I use the car for work, 5 days a week), bit like a lazy starter motor or something is draining the battery overnight

You need to get the codes read - I've a cheap cable and software for my laptop but it works as a reader (can't do much to change coding with it though).

If its O2 sensors they are often an easy fix - it was this that lit the EML on my E85. Deleted the codes with the laptop, a tank of 'quality' fuel and a run to Manchester and back from Norfolk driving it like I stole it (to get it all hot rather than short local trips) and all good for the last few years.

That's another thing, I'm just doing short trips (work and back) and not getting a good run out; think I'll take it out for a good burst tomorrow.
