EML Questions.

Hi all,

I lent the car to the GF on the weekend - she returned it with the EML warning light on :headbang: . She said after shopping it came on and the car had no power and was crawling so she pulled over, stopped and started it and it drove off fine (light still on however) - I've done 150 miles in it this morn and it's driving fine.

Questions for the experts.

Do I buy a code reader for £25 on ebay - make a note of the code - and then just reset as all seems fine? Is it worth having one anyone?

Or do I have to go to a garage and hand over wads of cash?

If the garage route is recommended does anyone know a decent indy in South Gloucestershire - I'm near Badminton.

My local garage would read the code for me and probably charge a small fee, so ask one local to you, then you can see what the fault is. Your GF may have stalled the engine or something like that. I have know the EML come on after a stall and then go off some time later. Best thing is get it sorted and don't let the GF drive it again.
 
Most places will charge more than £30 to just read codes, so if you buy a reader you're quids in the first time you use it.
If you're planning on keeping the car then it's worth getting one as all sorts of minor issues fixable at home can cause the EML to come on.
Look for cables that come with software, INPA is the main diagnostic and TIS is the workshop manual that is very useful.
 
I agree with Scooba_Steve - a code reader is worth having, it may just need a reset.

I had a chuckle at firebobby's comment: Your GF may have stalled the engine or something like that :D
