EML keeps coming on

Hello,

I am having a continual issue where my eml comes on, usually after I do hard acceleration. The car doesn’t misbehave at all when it is on. So I stuck the reader on and looked at the data stream, (no clue what I was looking for to be honest.)

However, I did check the vanos as I have read a few things about it and this is the reading I got while the engine was running. Is the (-) reading correct, or could that be an issue that needs addressed?

Hey Scott, I cleared them but is was misfires on multiple cylinders and lean bank 1&2

You've got the M54 by the look of it, so I'd start by looking for air leaks and checking the state of the sparkplugs, the PCV system and the DISA valve.

The top two figures look alright, but you need to see if they change when you rev it.
If not then the vanos seals are goosed.
But that won't be causing your current problem.
As stated, that sounds more like an air leak issue.

I'm with Enuff_Zed - my experience with M54 was that when both banks 1 & 2 showed lean, it was a vacuum leak . . . somewhere. Doesn't mean there can't be other things too.

Cheers guys. Spark plugs and ignition coils all replaced. Did a smoke test this morning and didn’t detect a leak, although it was a homemade affair so may not have been the best. I replaced the DISA last year as well. So will have a look at the PCV.
