EML Ignition issue

Car would not start yesterday morning as EML would not go out and no sound of the car trying to crank. It was very cold but the battery has 12.5V and would not start even with a NOCO GB40 attached to try and jump it.

RAC attended and the mechanic found that by removing the air box he could remove the plug to the excitor wire to the starter motor solenoid and start the car by providing a 12V supply to the plug.

Anyone had an issue similar with the cable from the control unit through the engine bay, the control unit or the ignition barrel?
