Hi all,i dont get many opportunities to get up to 70mph,but the last two times i have done this the bloody light comes on,the first time i took it to my indy he turned it off saying it only had one count,so could of just been a blip, now it has done it again  -i know i am two pots short of a proper engine  -but before i get it booked in has anyone had a similar problem?-thanks

Mine came on a few weeks back, BMW said there was a crack in the manifold, which was done under warranty - is this a common problem with these cars then?

Ive heard on here some owners having more than two replaced

Crikey, going through these forums, sounds like the Z4 is a pretty bad car in terms of its reliability. Think i'll sell mine when the BMW warranty runs out in Nov and go back to a Jap car!

I hear what you are saying, apart from the roof motors, springs, manifolds on the 2.0,fogging fog lights, door mirrors falling out etc....-they are good cars

you forgot failing starter motors as well - and all before 50k miles.

Jeeezzzz I had 2 MX-5's and never had an ounce of trouble with either of them - just wish the new ones didnt look so, erm, girlie!!!

Personally, I think you're all missing the point here (notwithstanding Andy's possible crack being the thread topic) because a Z is like the best girlfriend/wife you ever had / currently have - they can be very expensive every once in a while and they all have their foibles. Admittedly, you occassionally unearth one that's unhinged, but when everything's peachy (which is most of the time), you'll not find another in the same league that you'll have as much fun or satisfaction with. Period.

Asian ones can be just as bad - I should know as I own a Honda that has cost me a packet recently, and my wife is an Asian woman with a taste for expensive shoes and handbags :D

-Good point mate :) -thanks for mentioning my crack in your post!

You're welcome Andy - think of it as a bump for your thread :D

And it's better than dwelling on the fact that your 2 pots short of a straight 6 (pack)

mine has been on too, took it to garage and they stuck it on the machine found temp sensor u/s and probable air leak throwing up fault on bank 2. car goes in next week.

I have been told by my indy that my zed needed a cat update, before they can tell if i have a duff sensor-manifold ok (touches wood)-they did update/upgrade.
