Without an emissions test how do they know? How much confidence do you have in the garage that has diagnosed the fault?
Your emissions light has only come on several months after it first came on. If it was me I wouldn't be rushing to shell out £800 plus on a replacement cat if the car is running OK. I'd buy myself a D900 code reader and if the light appeared again I'd read the code myself and then pay for an emissions test for peace of mind, if the MOT is not yet due.

i to would want a 2nd opinion before shelling £800 sheets out on a dashlight if the car is running sweet

Thanks mate -i will take your advice onboard.

If your light has only reappeared several months after being cleared then to my mind it is a very intermittent problem.

Tbh -the indy said it looked like the cat after the process of elimination.
