Emergency Tyre Repair

Hi Guys

Got run flats on the Zed at the moment and will be looking to change these at some stage and when I do so what are you guys using as an emergency puncture repair kit?

Are you using a small compressor + a can of tyre foam or some other sort of repair kit?

Lots of bmw/mini emergency kits on E Bay so just asking what advice you can give.

I have a can of "fix-a-flat" in the left side storage box, but I'd probably never use it, just call for a flatbed lorry to pick it up.. and open the kit while waiting and wondering if the rim is fubar'd

I have a space saver in the boot, but not needed it in 7 years.

I am tempted to leave out, but bit the designer of the Titanic saying, nah we don't need extra lifeboats, i am afraid to leave it out.

I carry two motorbike tyre repair kits; the button type and the string type. And a pump. And tools. I've only used it once, on a friend’s motorbike.

If you’re getting the aforementioned kit to wait for roadside assistance, then the best type is Irish whiskey. Obviously.
:poke:

'Rats tails'
These were recommended by Smartbear and others on the forum. I now carry a set in both family cars (even though the Zed is on runflats) and my motorbike, along with petite compressor

I've only used them once, on a mates car, and they worked a treat

Rats tails and TWO tins of tyre gunk if running bigger wheels/tyres

Anything more catastrophic that these can’t fix RAC/AA etc

i just carry a 12v pump and some holtz tyreweld. i've used the pump once i think, but haven't used the tyreweld yet.

I carry two cans of Tyre Weld and compressor after replacing runflats on my E89 5 years ago.

Used Tyre Weld for first time last year. First can was faulty, no pressure. Thankfully second can worked fine.

Tyre weld I'm led to believe can be washed out of tyre so that tyre can be used again if not damaged. Some tyre products cannot be removed so tyre cant be reused.

Ms didn't have run-flats fitted but were supplied with a can of sealant and a compressor.

But when I did a driving trip in Wales a couple of years ago I put a spare wheel in the boot just in case, and it's still there!

Last resort is RAC Recovery membership card.

I’ve recently used a “rat tail” to repair a tyre that had a screw through it. Still holding up after a couple hundred miles. About £5 for the kit.

Much better in my opinion than the tyre muck my missus’s Qashqai came with, which to be fair got her home but cost me £200 for a new tyre as nobody would repair it.
