Emergency roof release operation questions

Just looked through the manual to see how to release the roof manually. I have two questions. In the boot I don't have a cord to pull on, (there is a hole) what does this do and where should it go?
Also it mentions pressing the release (button 1) in the car, the button won't go down it's solid.

Does anyone have any help or advice, before I start stripping the car, looking for the cord and where to attach it.

Is your roof auto or manual....

That "button" inside the cockpit (haha I said Cock) above the storage compartment only works on manual roofs i believe, on auto roofs it's just a fixed bit of plastic.
If you want to manually open/close your roof you have to use the Bowden cable in the boot near the parcel shelf on the left hand side, the bright red pull ring

Thanks, my car is 06 and the button doesn't go down. On the car we are buying with my son 2004 3.0l the button does move, although the roof doesn't work. I disengaged the roof hydraulics by pulling and twisting the red toggle 90 degrees. Pressed the roof open button and the top unlatches but the roof doesn't move because I suppose the motor has failed.
We tried pulling the roof back but it doesn't move. It's solid, it's definitely disengaged. Are there other parts that can seize.
And what does this piece of cord attach to on my 06.

The reason the roof won't move is because the motor hasn't disengaged, your Bowden cable has seized or the valve on the motor hasn't worked-if the motor was disengaged you would be able to move it by hand (once it had unlatched at the windscreen.

Thanks, yes that's how I understand it should be. The red one pulls and twists easily but the roof is solid which leads me to think that something is jammed or seized. It may of blown a fuse, (where is that one) . I think it's been like it for years.

Blowing a fuse won't affect the hydraulics disengaging as its a purely mechanical function with no electrics involved, try releasing the Bowden cable & pulling it again to see if it activates the valve.

Newer facelift cards do not have the cord in the boot. My last one didn't which was built Aug 06, but my ///M does, built Jan 06

Button inside for manual roofs only, all UK roof are electric (apart from only one I know of where owner seemed to have spec'd manual roof).

Thanks, so I'm not missing a cord and the button is how it should be. That's good news.

Yes, kept my finger on the button, windows lower, roof unlatches and then all is silent I tried pulling the roof slightly but it's solid. There is a gap and I could see the hooks.
He's bought the car, and is driving it back right now so I'll have more time to play.

This is what happened to mine.you will only really know when you get the motor out.
The cable was pulling out but not disengaging at the motor.
