Also any recommendations for a decent BMW Indy, or person to take the car to for a diagnostic check in the Kent area would be appreciated. Just in case this proves to be beyond me…..
Errr............... [ref]j3nks79[/ref] did offer?

Yes, correct. I did reply to his offer too. Didn’t want to bug him though in his current situation… He obviously has more important things to do right now.

Sorry Ady I haven’t forgot you. Shoot me a pm and we can arrange a day.

No need to be sorry. Will do

I live in east grinstead which isn't far and have the creator 310 plus which is good on my e85and identifies which sensor is faulty. Not sure what you mean by loom as each lambda sensor comes with its own lead. I paid much more than that for Bosch sensors on my car and wonder if you have purchased one of those universal ones where you have to connect cables. They are useless I am told.

Thanks for the reply and offer of help Mike.
I have bought and fitted a Febi sensor. I’m guessing it’s no good. I’m hoping to hook up with J3nks at some point this week to get a diagnosis and go from there. I’ll buy the correct Bosch parts as required from now on!

Ok, good luck. Don't know how you managed to replace the sensor without knowing which one it was . Not familiar with that sensor make but only Bosch are recommended as OEM parts.post up how you got on

I just replaced the one with charred wiring, hoping that was the issue. Should have got a better diagnosis first! Febi parts are generally pretty decent. It seems like these o2 sensors are sensitive items though and need to be spot on to work right. I’ll report back when I have news of success or disaster….

I paid a visit to Jenks today for a diagnosis. Thanks for your help mate, it’s appreciated, and it was a pleasure to meet you.

The car was plugged in and codes read to find lambda sensor issues post cat as expected. I’ve decided to order both sensors, but Bosch made this time. Makes sense to do both whilst I’m there I guess, even if I am on a budget. I whipped the Febi one back off the car tonight and will send it back in the hope of a refund. I’ve added a pair of vanos solenoids to the order also which will hopefully help with the hunting at idle.

I’ll report back when I’ve fitted the parts. I’ve ordered from Autodoc though so it might be a little while…….

Good to see the coverage of members who can help extending across the country more.
It’s going to become more essential as the cars age.

Good to meet you to Ady.
And I have to say that carbon black is the best colour

Parts arrived from Autodoc at the end of last week and were fitted this morning.

Both post cat lambda sensors and a pair of vanos solenoids fitted with no drama. Engine management light now gone! :D

But the trouble now is that I have both abs lights on!!?? It’s one step forward then two steps back with this car at the moment :( I’ll search the forum to see what my options are. New thread may be incoming…..
