Elle’s new boots

After a few interesting moments during the cold and wet mornings in December I thought it best to fit Elle a new set of boots. I’d spent some time searching for a used set of multi-spoke AMG alloys in the correct fitting, alas my expectation of what I wanted to spend did not match what was on offer and honestly I’m not a fan of machined faced wheels which it is de rigueur for Mercedes. Having seen some good comments on here regarding Veemann wheels I’d narrowed a choice between V-FS23 and V-FS36, I love the CSL style wheels but automatically think BMW not Mercedes so in the end I opted for the multi-spoke style favoured by modern Mercedes.

Then we get to tyres, as I’ve stated in previous posts we in England, don’t have the severe climate that necessitates winter tyres per se, but summer tyres on damp roads and 3C are far from great especially on 285/30R19 with 370 bhp on tap. After many hours of watching Tyre Reviews (highly recommended Chanel on YouTube) I opted for an all season tyre by Continental, the AllseasonContact which came highly recommended and the fact that I could not get the GoodYear Vector 4seasons in 255/35R19. The alloys, tyres and TPMS sensors were delivered by BM Autosport for a very reasonable price and arrived Wednesday last week. On Boxing Day, my partner and I fitted them and after a few heart stopping moments all were fitted, the new TPMS sensors synced at the first attempt and I’m well happy. Initial impression is that I’ve now got lots more grip, steering feels a tad lighter, comfort is much improved on uneven surfaces and they’re definitely quieter losing 30mm on the rear width surely helps.

My original 5 spoke star alloys are going for a refurb next year ready for some new Goodyear F1A5’s for warmer conditions, thinking of graphite as per the V-FS36 fitted or possibly shadow chrome, can’t wait :D

Good move

I fitted the Goodyear Gen 3 to the E89..had to frig it due to lack of correct sizes so went 235/45 17 and 255/45 17 on some 8j 9j Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2

Grip is fabulous in the cold and wet..not surprising it’s a comfortable ride on those profiles..looks slightly odd but they are pothole busters

Well they certainly fill out the rear arches :D
Wonder why Goodyear have limited sizes available on the Vector 4 Seasons, and there isn’t an all season tyre that fits the original rears either hence the square set up

They just don’t seem to do many in ‘typical’ sport car sizes / profiles..I dug myself a hole trying to do it on an asymmetrical set up..

I did have a lovely square set up on 103 17” daisies with Conti TS850s but my first bigger brake kit resulted in an interference fit on the fronts...so pressed the old summer asymmetric wheel set into service compounding my problems...first world issues..

You need one of these to dry multi-spoke wheels and the rest of the car. I have had a similar one for 12 years and wouldn't be without it. :)

Okay, I’ve now seen everything, a hair dryer for your car and perhaps after a few months I’ll be sold on one :D

I bought a pet dryer and a 5m extension hose from eBay. About £55 all in. Does a grand job

Would some Mercedes centre caps not complete the look?

They would indeed, I even purchased some in preparation, alas they don’t fit :x
