I am struggling to find a method to mount a few circuit boards in a box so looking for help with this.

I bought one of these ABS project boxes, which arrived today. However, there is nothing in the box but a couple of groves at the side. No mounting methods or anything so no idea how you can add a couple of circuit boards in there.

Anyone done this and knows how to mount the boards to something?

Do the boards have mounting holes? If so then you could get some nylon adhesive standoffs or drill and tap a hole in the box and fit threaded metal/nylon stand offs.
If not then I've used nylon adhesive board clips, they kind of pinch the side of the board. I'm finding it hard to describe these.
 
i usually get a set of motherboard mounting kits.. they have little screw in risers.. you can screw one into another to gain additional height etc.. basically screw one set into the base and glue in place, then if you're mounting multiple boards, you put the first board on the first set of risers, then screw another riser ontop of that.. hard to explain, but if you get a set, you'll work it out :)

Normally the grooves are there to mount pcb's with set dimensions (like eurocard)

For hobby projects there are self adhesive pcb raisers/mounts:

If you don't want to drill in the housing.

Or drill holes, and use metal or plastic support pillars. For a flush underside you can use countersunk screws.
Or if you don't mind, there are snap in pillars. There is loads of this stuff:

Most stuff is made of the white nylon (electric insulator), and screw threads on those is usually metric.

Yes, the two boards are different size but have 4 mounting holes. That was my final solution if I could not find anything else, but ideally I would have "suspended' in the middle of the box for cooling and enabling of the wires to be below the boards instead of above.

I am a metric person thanks to my Dutch upbringing :D

Those seem indeed exactly what I need so will have a look on eBay for those bits.

Yep, the only thing is that there are no holes in the box so I think I prefer the plastic standoffs that are glued to the inside of the box so I can suspend the boards.
 
All a bit odd though, as you can not buy everything you need.

You either have a bag with 100 stand offs, but no nuts to tight the pcb end with, and nothing to fix the stand offs with.

I would have thought you would be able to get a pack with all 3 parts which you will always need, as individually they are pretty useless?
 
The way it normally works is like this: drill & tap hole in box, screw standoff into hole, screw pcb to standoff with m3 screw.
If you aren't going to drill and tap the hole then you probably want the self adhesive clip in standoffs. The glue they use is pretty strong and will probably outlast the application.
 
Unfortunately, the pcb has an M2.5 hole in it, the other pcb has the M3. I thought that I could use M2.5 for both.

Just surprised that even with the standoffs, they never sell the required screws with them. When would you ever need the standoffs without screws?
 
I guess they don't supply screws because there isn't really a one size fits all screw for them to supply. The width of the screw head can be an issue.
 
But a pcb has a similar thickness though, so if you fit it as you describe, you would always need to put a screw through the pcb into the standoff.
