Electronic Parking Brake Failure

Been having the dreaded 'increased battery discharge' warning for the past few days and today the parking brake failed, so am assuming this is due to a knackered battery.
Booked into my local Indy Specialist tomorrow morning for new battery and check electronics etc.
If I get a new battery should the parking brake resume working ok?

Judging by all the previous posts in this thread you’re going to need the updated software flashed to your car, replacing the battery doesn’t fix it :?

Oh jeez!
That's just ridiculous!
I saw on YouTube how a guy reset his BMW parking brake just by removing and replacing the fuse?

That must have been something else wrong, removing & replacing a fuse won’t update the software.

Oh blimey!☹
Was going to wait for the car while they replaced the battery and registered it. If it needs a software update then looks like they will need the car all day. Good grief

If you read the thread, there’s a guy on here that’s offered to do the update for forum members but you obviously have to drive to him for that to happen.

I've also got this issue this morning (EPB won't activate) after the xmas period.
Phoned local dealer (Barons Stansted) who insist that they 'need to do their own investigation' despite telling them this is a known issue and giving them all the fault codes from this thread, at a fixed 'investigation cost' of £162 before any work even begins....Think I'll look into doing this myself.

You're not alone! The offer still stands:

Sorry I've not replied to this, but I do still have the laptop with necessary software & cable. I hope no-ones paid to have it fixed!

Located in Dorking, if anyone has the issue?

@degenatron

Sorry to be a pain. When you say you followed the steps on page 8, do you mean the first 3? i.e.

Get 'Daten' files from here (2017, 4.5GB):
https://mega.nz/#!V0dWRBLS!Ov5i3Xxql0hc ... 2wUSAdq-z8

Install WinKFP from here:
https://mega.nz/#!kAASwa7I!AJLVnnEBwLgz ... ofE-TBYGmk

Import the downloaded Daten into WinKFP using this method:
https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attac ... 1337480801

And then did you perform the comfort mode you outlined on this page?

Thanks!

Basically, yes.

Although I would get the latest and last to be released daten (V66) for the E89 here:
https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=112291

I had a cable from BCables which came with their own installer and version of WinKFP so I used that instead.

Use the import method on the bimmerfest link and then the procedure:
Comfort mode-> update ECU-> EMF89 Unverbaut-> Done-> Prog.ZB-Update

And that's it.

Does anyone have a link to the latest Daten files? The one above for the V66 is no longer valid.
I've got the 2017 files from above, but the latest version would be ideal.

Found a copy being hosted here incase anyone's interested.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1fUn1IFgy5pBThLOMdceRr6V1T8lcXuk_

I ended up using the 2017 version anyway as I'd already prepared the files, it's fixed the EPB perfectly.

Downloaded the Daten files from here: https://mega.nz/#!V0dWRBLS!Ov5i3Xxql0hcjWd6nleWdGP527g8df3Xo2wUSAdq-z8
Then extracted them using 7Zip

I ordered this cable: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0779FK5NK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Cable comes with a USB stick containing drivers and an easy to follow installation guide, as well as the 'Mikes Easy BMW Tools' package.

'Mikes Easy BMW Tools' can also be downloaded from 'Standard Tools' here: https://www.bimmergeeks.net/downloads

Then followed TDJ's Youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3GFE0qqsBI&feature=youtu.be

.. and I had an Amazon voucher from xmas so all it cost me was £9 for the cable, winning!.. BMW :wkr:

Thanks a lot for all the help you have provided us with! This weekend I will start the procedure, I hope I will succeed!

My Ebrake just had this failure. Car with 14k original miles, 2009 35i.

Interesting thing is it happened after driving the car for an hour on the motorway and with what I believe is a good battery.
