Electronic drums - recommendation?

Does anyone here have electronic drums? I got myself a Yamaha DD-65 drum pad to try and hold Parkinsons at bay.

I am 55, cannot read music but I can bash out a decent beat to Kravitz (Are you gonna go my way) US3 Cantaloop Flip Fantazia, Costello Pump it up, Free alrite now etc.

I find the drum pad a bit limiting now, so looking to upgrade to something costing about £600. I understand Roland (with mesh head) is a good choice over the Yamaha. I don't mind searching flea bay.

Can anyone recommend the next step for me?

I am no John Bonham (I didn't choke on my own vomit), nor Keith Moon or Ginger Baker.......but when the left hand shake gets going I can do a mean drum roll........trouble is, it won't stop!

Never know, I might post on you tube!

I'm also thinking about getting an electronic drum kit. I played the drums at school for various bands and played my way through college too.
But with work and since having kids then I just haven't had the time.

I have been looking at the demos on youtube of various kits, this is helping a lot to get a feel for the sound. At the moment I am very impressed with the Roland HD-1, it is also one of the cheaper kits.
You can get a new one in your price range. I am not sure if I'd want to buy a second hand one, you could get some nutter smashing the hell out of it. I suppose that's what they are for, but I'd still prefer the peace of mind of a new one.

Had a look one ebay myself but alot of the kits are older kits and the difference in the sound is big, they can sound like bad keyboard drums.

The far cheapest option would be to buy a second hand normal kit (not electronic) and dampen them, so they're not too loud. You also get the option to join a band and use them to gig this way. But I guess you have already chosen to go down the electronic route for a reason.

Cheers Seggy, I have looked at the HD-1 as well, I need to see one in the flesh and see how much of an improvement it is over the pad. It looks very compact, which is ideal for me in a flat with small 2nd bedroom.
