Electrical Steering Fail

I have had nothing but hell with this. Still not fixed.
Ebay seller has been brilliant so far. It's the garage giving me issues.
I ordered part. Garage told me to send part direct to them so I told seller to deliver which he did using parcelforce.
Garage opened part and found a bit of the plastic connector is cracked. not a huge deal IMO. they can simply connect it and then use tape, or putty or mould it on you would think. No the garage is refusing to fit it. I will upload pics in a sec.
Seller is offering me 1/3 refund if I fit the part as is or full refund on its return.
Problem being I won't get another part for maybe 3 months. The garage also state the original part on my car is apparently unrepairable even though BBA reman will charge £35 to find out if it is repairable or not.
So I'm asking garage to fit the part and just use lots of tape on the connector. They are refusing to do this. So I am now in the position I get another place to do it, do it myself, or send it back and try and either get the original repaired or source another.

I wouldn't rely on tape, can't blame them for not wanting to fit. Can you not disassemble and use the plastic from the old one and this unit?

It doesn't look that bad to me. I'm very careful about safety but so long as it makes a connection and they secure it using whatever they can IMO it should be fine. It's just a bit of cracked off plastic.
I see it as simple as making a connection a lead of sorts. A bit of the protective part has broken off. They should be able to simply re-build that using electrical tap, putty, heatshrink, cable ties, etc.
Been without the car for over a month now.
I wouldn't fit it like that, lost too much support.
Don't see why the garage won't let you send the original off though, not really their call as its your car and parts. They might want to charge storage though.
I would try transferring the connectors over, but you need to be sure this isn't the actual part causing the problem otherwise you will achieve nothing.
