Electrical question about 12v socket

Calling all electrical minded people. I want to fit another 12v power socket - it'll be near the existing cigarette lighter so I'm thinking can I just daisy chain the connections off the existing 12v socket with some wire, or do I need a new supply running to the new socket?

And before playing with the wires here, do I need to disconnect the battery, or just have the ignition off (assuming the 12v is switch live, which might be the wrong assumption?!?)

just tap into each wire and insulate.

shouldn't need to disconnect battery i didnt on old car when i fitted one in boot

Out of curiosity, why do you need 2 so close together? Could you not use a double 12 socket adapter or a dual usb adapter?
