Electrical issues...

I have a 2003 2.5... the previous owner had an aftermarket head unit and alarm system. They put the factory unit back in before they sold it. The factory alarm is not hooked up( red light on the mirror doesn't flash ) and behind the radio is just a rat nest of wires. I've had electrical issues regarding the power locks ever since I got it. I replaced the battery and the issue went away. But, now it has come back. I've seen posts regarding the GM5 modules and such... today I went to start the car and had no power! I hooked up a battery charger to let it trickle charge all day. Dash lights come on for just a moment and I can't even get a crank now. Could it be the alternator?? I know these cars are pretty fickle in the electronic department... thoughts?

If you had a charger on it all day and it still wouldn't crank, the first thing I would be changing would be the battery. Has it been left for any length of time discharged? If you had some current draw from a wiring problem it could have killed the battery again. They die pretty quick if they are left for even just a few days below 11.5V.

The car is a daily driver. Haven't made any modifications recently that would affect the electronics. The new battery is a warrantied replacement I got a couple of weeks ago. Maybe it's just that specific brand.

What is the voltage on the battery? The fact remains that if you had a charger on it all day and the dash lights only came on for a few moments and can't crank it then there is no energy stored in the battery. What charger did you use?

It may be that you have a large parasitic current draw which is more then the charger can supply in which case it won't charge the battery.
You could try disconnecting the battery from the car first and then charging.

Ideally you need some kind of current meter to look at the current been taken from the battery such as this.... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Multimeter-Tacklife-Auto-ranging-Continuity-Capacitance/dp/B01N014CTB/ref=pd_sbs_328_4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=P4ZT794ZEEJEHQG793MJ&tag=z4fo-21

Charger is a DieHard 12 volt.

Hooked my multimeter up and I get a reading of 16.5... that's with the battery disconnected from the car. The battery terminals are clean and so are the connections.

So.... something is grounding out somewhere...?

16.5v!!!! If you really have that on your battery then that battery is kaput. Are you sure about that voltage. Can you send a picture?
