I have a question for some of the electrical gurus,

yesterday I was driving the Z I put the heaters on to demist the windscreen and the windscreen wipers and windows
stopped working which was not good as it was pouring down, I pulled over had a look in the fuse board and fuse10 5amp
had blown I changed the fuse and all good again for about 5 mins then wipers/windows stopped working again so changed the
fuse again and the same outcome it done this quite a few times in the end just turned the heater off and it stopped blowing
the fuse

so every time I turn the heater on it blows fuse 10 anyone had a similar thing happen or any ideas as to why?
all answers would be greatly appreciated thankyou

Hi , I would check that the correct amperage fuse is installed ...5 amps seems low to me, it should be written on the fuse box area somewhere

Just did some checking fuse 57 is for the heater fan and should be 40 amps, fuse 10 is for interior lights ???

yes fuse 10 does interior lights , Ews and the aux waterpump

I checked every fuse today and nothing blown all the fuses are the correct amps and in the right places,
but everytime I put the heater on fuse 10 blows and that stops the windows and wipers moving and sometimes
sets the alarm off ? .

I know the battery is on its way out so have ordered a new one but surely that wouldn't freak the electrics out like that?
will fit the new battery as soon as it comes then try the heaters again

They are very temperamental to low voltages an can throw all sorts of weird errors or thing's not working, as you say if you know battery is old , change that an go from there

Have any mods. been done lately ? Could be some dodgy wiring , if it was me I would put an Amp meter in the fuse connections and see what amps are being used and when ?
Could be the wire going to the fan is drawing current from the side light system instead of it's own system because of a chaffed and or cut wire ??

Firstly, stop turning the bloody thing on! Fuses are there for a reason, if it blows once, replace, if it blows again stop using until resolved.
I would be very surprised if a low battery was causing one to blow. Definitely worth checking the correct amperage. Beyond that, if you're not confident fault finding then give it to an electrical specialist to resolve.

Sound advice!

And don't do what a previous owner of a car I bought in the 80s had done and replace the fuse with a bit of a Crunchie wrapper!
