Electric window problems

New to BMW Forum - collected 2010 Z4 about 1 month ago and love it but have had problems already!
When lowering or raising the roof, the drivers side window drops by approx 3 inches after going fully up. Pressing the 'roof open or close' button or the 'window close' button rectifies this ie the window closes again. This is an intermittent problem and BMW have replaced the window motor and regulator to no avail. As well as this, came out one morning to find all of the windows were fully down - anyone else had any similar problems? Car goes back in tomorrow.
Thanks

Hi,

I'm having the same problem. My dealer did a re-initialisation of the windows, but it didn't solve the problem.

I'm going to show them this thread:

Yep sounds familiar.

The all windows down isn't a usual complaint here - would have definitely not have leaned on the key and lowered them in error?

Show this to your dealer;

Retreating Windows - Measure No.32795976-01 - Kit Part No. is BM51337308822 - When putting all four windows up, intermittently one or more will then drop back down. Happens mostly at end of roof closure cycle, however does also happen at times using the button to close all four windows manually. The measure no. above I believe involves fitting relays to prevent false anti trap triggers.

Just an update: Took the car back in today and they advised that the had to 're-learn' the window sensors. Assured me they had found the fault and it had been rectified. Picked up the car tonight, dropped the roof, got home, put the roof back up but low and behold the passenger window did exactly the same (it had previously been the drivers side). NOT HAPPY!

Thanks for the info Maniac. I'm taking the car back tomorrow and will give them the info.

misterken, did they do the work on warranty?

update:

i took the car back to the dealer with the info from Maniac and explained that I had counted at least 8 other forum members with the same problem, 4 of whom had had remedial work done under warranty. The dealer said that they couldn't get anything from the numbers above :slaphead: but it did prompt them to contact BMW UK, which resulted in them changing some relays (which sounds similar to the fix others have had) under warranty.

They are also going to refund me the £170 they charged for the diagnosis and re-initialisation of the windows.

So well done Hexagon for doing the right thing.

Mine is in at the moment for this. They couldn't find anything with the numbers I'd obtained but again did speak with BMW because of it and they've now installed a 'junction box'... whatever that means. I'll try it through the week if the rain lets up and see...

My car is back now after they fitted a 'junction box'!?

The cars windows no longer retreat on a roof up cycle or all four windows button up.

I do note however that the smaller rear windows don't come up at the same time as the main windows now which is presumably how they avoid the anti trap firing. The down side tho is that you must hold the all four windows up button a fair bit longer now.

still no sign of my refund and the dealer doesn't seem to want to call me back. i'd expect this from a back alley garage, but not a reputable dealer.

Is this something you could take up with your credit card company?
