Electric Window cable broken - help?

My drivers side window stopped working over the weekend (it wouldnt go all the way to the top and then just wouldnt move at all), i removed the door trim thanks to the link on this forum to discover one of the pully cables had snapped...i went to my local BMW dealer to enquire on replacing the cable and was told i had to replace pretty much the whole mechanism at a cost of £104!! :o .

This part is now on order and i am determined to save the labour charges and have a go at fitting it myself....has anyone had any experience in replacing this part (the guy at the dealership said he had ordered this part for a few other Zeds so it might be a design flaw...maybe??). As the cable has snapped i dont really know where it goes or how it fits on etc, if anyone has an exploded diagram or similar step guide i would be very grateful.....or i could go and buy a haynes manual for £20....beats paying the stealer £150 labour!

I've not replaced the winder mechanism on the Zed, but had the door to bits many times. It'll be a bit of a jigsaw to work out and aside aligning the glass can't see there being anything to worry you, if you've already managed to get the door trim off. Biggest thing is to ensure oyu do not turn on the ignition if you disconnect or remove the door airbag, unless you want a warning light and dealer trip.

I'd get a TIS (service manual) manual off Ebay. There are dozens advertised at any one time for around £5 and cover all BMW's They are very clear and show step by step, printable, etc.
