Electric soft top 53 plate

Hi guys

I have gone to put my soft down tonight after work & when I press the down button all I get is an amber light which flashes on then off

Any ideas of what is wrong with it, any help would be appreciated

If its an amber/orange light, could be the micro switch for the parcel shelf. Check the rear shelf is down, and maybe a quick look with a torch in the boot at the switch itself
 
Just checked again and when I hold the button i think
It is red & the light doesn't come off until I release my finger & no sound either. Sorry what it the micro switch & where would I find this?
 
Micro swith is right in front of you when you open the boot. It's in the black plastic mount on the backwall of the boot.

If it's a red light, I would think your roof motor has gone. There are numerous threads such as this one which might be able to help.

Typically from BMW you're looking at £800-1200 for a fix. Indepedant prices will be £600-900. Or a motor will cost c.£200-250 and you can fit it yourself.

Have a quick search through the problems pages and you'll probably find what your after :thumbsup:
 
Does anything happen?
Can you hear the locks unlocking?
If the system does absolutely nothing as Adamski says check the parcel shelf is down and the microswitch is made.
If you can hear the roof unlatching and then nothing happens you could be another victim of the roof motor failure.
 
I honestly dread pressing my roof release button and nothing happening again. These threads worry me :(
 
Thanks guys, it was the parcel shelf in the boot one was down & not the other, must of happened when I had it cleaned. sorry use to my husbands dealing with this but he is away at the mo.
