Electric roof problem

Hi , hope you can help. I have had my z4 (2005 model) for two winters now. Just come to take it out fro first run and the clock had ceased to be set, more concerning is that the electric roof is not working. She started allright and I have taken her for a run , reset6 the clock ,but still no response from the roof. I put her on charge this morning (I have a trickle charger that i used to use virtually permanently with my previous MG)

Any thoughts? Regards Sewad

Do any of the indicator lights come on when you press the roof button? (flashing amber or red)? Any noise from the motor at all? If there's nothing at all, checked the fuses?

You need to tell us a bit more?

If all is silent then may be just an simple electrical problem. If it's trying to raise and not moving I belive that to be a bigger issue.

If there is nothing whatsoever at the button.......check the parcel shelf in the boot is in the lower position.

Hi guys, I am a complete novice so thanks for your patience.

There is no lights on either the lower or raise button. There is no movement of the roof whatsoever and no sounds as if it is trying to operate. I will go and lokk at the parcel shelf now.

Thanks again

If completely dead at the button, probably electrical.

The parcel shelf trips a microswitch enabling the whole roof down process to start. The shelf in the up position will lead to 'dead' at the button.

The micro switch being broken (mine was) lead to 'dead' at the button. Very easy fix!

Faulty fuse will lead to 'dead' at the button.

Where are you based?

The roof controller will refuse to operate the roof if battery voltage is even slightly low, 11.4v IIRC. If your battery is gone, the alternator may not be able to raise the voltage enough for the roof to work, especially at idle.

Thanks guys, in the end I took it to my local garage who have now fixed it at a very reasonable cost. They told be that as the battery had discharged that the calibration between the side windows and the roof needed to be re-established, how does that sound to you guys? Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, all the best Rod

Glad you got yours sorted, for the life of me I can't work out how my roof comes off :headbang: :headbang:
