Electric issues

2005 Z4 3.0i in South Carolina

New owner here, somewhat experienced mechanic.

Just bought our Z4 2 weeks ago and it came with these issues: cruise control doesn't work, wiper delay doesn't work, dash clock doesn't keep time (it justreads --:--), climate control doesn't work (no lights, no fan, no A/C or heat), and the power convertible top doesn't go down or up (I can manually put it down and up), and the Service Engine Soon won't reset.

I've checked the fuses, all good there. I'm wondering if there's a control module that all of these go through, or should I take each one separately.

Any help is appreciated.

Easy check to start, how old is the battery, a old battery can cause all sorts of various electrical issues, but still able to start the car

Some of those sound like transport mode, especially AC and roof issues

And as mark says that will be brought about by a poor battery

Usually the transport mode lets the fan run at its lowest speed though.
Definitely worth a battery check first.
If that doesn’t do it then possibly a module on the k-bus is faulty and upsetting loads of other modules too.
Do you have an airbag light on? If not, does it come on at start up for a few seconds while it self tests? If not then maybe it is taped over, which would lead me back to a centre control module issue, which is on the k-bus.

All warning lights cycle normally when I start the car
Ok so that rules out the airbag module causing an issue.
You could still have another module on the kbus upsetting things though. Unless a new battery has sorted it?

Stopping by O'Reillys on my way home. Car has almost 151k miles and I have no idea if the transmission has ever been serviced, so that's being done right now

Fixed the climate control...mostly. A new climate control module and almost everything works fine. Almost everything because I need to take it someplace to get the A/C looked at

Good result 👍🏻

So sounds like a series of unrelated issues?
Try taking the wiper motor apart and cleaning the grease off the circular contact ring.
