Electric hood

Good morning guys,
I am looking at buying a 54 plate Z4 (2.2 SE); the seller states they had a new motor installed for the electric hood. They are now saying they closed the roof; opened it closed it again and now it won't open. They say it is unlatching but won't retract? Any help and advice to a virgin Z4 owner would be great. Would it be a time consuming and expensive job to fix and how much? This would maybe be a bartering tool to get an even better deal on the car. thanks in advance for your help

Personal I'd get them to fix the fault before you go ahead with the purchase. It could be the micro switch, but if its the motor then you could be looking at upwards of £600 to get it fixed. Bit odd that they say the motor has been replaced - it should't be failing so soon unless the drain holes are blocked and water has caused the new motor to fail. Either way, I'd walk away unless the seller fixes it. Welcome btw

It won't me the micro switch as the roof doesn't release if that isn't working.

Sounds like the roof motor again. If you are happy using scanners etc then could be a good bargain tool as you say.

They fix it or walk away. Pointless taking on a potentially expensive fix. You don't know the roof ever worked and if they did the swap or did it correctly.

Incidentally the 2.2 is the least sought after of the engines. Limited production run and replaced by a 4 cylinder or the better 2.5/3.0

Sounds like motor symptoms so the new motor is either a lie or it wasn't done properly. Could just need a fluid top up, but it's a big to get to. As already said not the best engine so I would avoid, I'd certainly not trust it to be fixed properly even if it worked again.

Hello and welcome, depends what you want regarding engine size, age and insurance can play a part here. When was he motor changed, you don't say, so it could be a few years ago ??. If the rest of the car is good and everything else works, it may be worth saying they get the roof fixed or knock off.. say£600/800. Got any photos or a link to the add?
