Currently in the market for a Z4 and understand that they all have Electric handbrakes nowadays. Not had a chance to test drive one yet, are they easy to get used to? How do they work?

Pretty easy, you pull up the lever to put it on and press it down to take it off. Takes getting used to but it's simple.

Unlike some manufacturers you need to apply it manually when stopped/parked up and take it off when moving off.

It's a unit that is applied to the rear of the caliper and when the lever is pulled or pushed it engages or disengages the handbrake. Some other systems out there use a cable and unit which is stored elsewhere in the car.

It's not a bad system........when it works. Mines recently failed, but a software update will sort it.......that I'm not too happy about but at least that's all it is but then that's what warranties are there for.

Soon get used to using it.
In fact would hate a manual now.
At least doesn't need adjusting before every MOT.
And DIY is simple to change pads .
Hill assist is nice.
Gives nice bong if you are naughty and try to move off before it has disengaged.
And passengers ask where's the handbrake or what's this for?
Reply "DON'T TOUCH" as they reach for it.

Yes takes some getting used to but seems so natural now.

I drive my wife's Audi TT regularly and find the manual handbrake a bit of a pain after the zed.

Works fine for me (Button looks tidier than a bloody big lever) - I just have to remember to press the button before moving off
My Wife's Astra disengages the minute your press the accelerator, but like mentioned above you do get a reminder :)
