Hello all,

Got home this evening, stopped outside the garage, pulled handbrake switch, got the usual whining noise as the servos did their stuff, then GONG.
Carly shows the codes in the attached image with an explanation.
I have googles the codes for fix advice but they dont seem to show anything!
So any ideas would be appreciated chaps.
Thanks in advance

Mark

So…

Carly not great ISTA or others would give clearer diagnostics…

But..

The first error is somewhat away from the second one ..hundreds of miles

Electrical continuity

Internal failure of the EPB motor

Internal EPB ECU

Those are your main options

I’d put a fresh motor on the unit for £35 and.or get far better diagnostics

When my cars failed obd said under voltage error.
Just replace them. £30 ish ebay.
Rust up inside.
Refit with some grease to keep water out.
If one fails, the ebrakes work ok not knowing one as failed.

Thanks B21, pretty much my thoughts as well.
I found an actuator on Amazon for £25 which is on its way.
At that price it’s cheaper to try than pay for an advanced diagnostic.
Part gets good reviews comes with bolts etc so fingers crossed.
I’ll update as it progresses.

So, when replacing the actuator is it necessary to wind both calipers all the way back so the actuators on each side are synchronised, or simply remove the old one, pop new one and and thats it??

Just the one..the EPB ECU drives the new one and senses motor current rising then stops ..simples

OK, i went to get the car, syarted it up, no handbrake error!! Operated it over and over but nothing.
Changed the actuator anyway, plug is nice and clean, splined shaft in the actuator was quite loose and rattled a lot more than the new actuator.
So, not too sure what the heck was going on there!!!!
Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated..

It’s an electro mechanical system..like the water pump…the current draw is monitored by the ECU..when there’s a variation between what it believe should happen and what does happen it flags an error…wear n tear, corrosion , worn commutator bushes etc etc all cause errors to be flagged..often these things at either end of the temperature range and/or frequency of use and/or just a bad hair day can precipitate these things…key point is it won’t ultimately improve itself…glad it’s sorted..
