Eibach's on a 3.0Si with 224's

Anyone running lowered on 224's? If so do you get any rubbing? (Non M)

My rear spring broke today so thinking about changing all four for the kit below

I had Eibachs and 224s on my last car DPG.

With my 108s and 20mm spacers rear / 15mm front I got rubbing - quite a lot on the front of the offside front edge arch liner (wore through, retarded with gaffer tape  ), a small amount on the rear edge of the rear offside arch liner, and a teeny bit on the front edge of the nearside front.

I didn't have the 224s on long before I sold the car, but the fronts sit about where the 108s would have been with 10mm spacers and it made a lot of difference, much less rubbing on my gaffer tape. The rears sat about the same place as the 108s and spacers. I'm not sure whether the fact I am not a light chap made a difference - logic says it did. However the rubbing was only ever evident when driving in a spirited manner. Tbh the look with Eibachs and 224s is worth a little plastic wear.

The thing to consider is the ride change - Eibachs are actually a bit more complaint over smaller road surface changes than OEM, but definitely not when the going gets a bit bumpier. Oh, and speed bumps become a slo-mo affair :D

Hope that helps a bit.

Cheers Bing. I might just replace with OEM for now.

BMW quoted £380 to replace both rears.

Tyre size would be important mr B , dropping to 215 40 0r 215 45 fronts could well have eliminated the problem
What were you running ?

Hi I paid £300 for both rear springs replaced at BMW in maidstone kent on my coupe last month.

I had H&Rs on for a while with my 224s with out much rubbing, pretty sure there was some but not enough to remove them. There are little lower then eibachs tho so they should be fine.

seems a much better price

Cant comment on the ride but my H&Rs was very harsh on uneven road surfaces and speed bumps were a total embassment  also killed off my shocks with in six months but they were probably past there best at 80,000 miles. For that reason id only fit lowering spring with shocks that can take the lower ride height such as the B8s.

Hang on. So I'm about to fit Eibachs to my Z, running the standard 108s. Will I need spacers?

I'm really against spacers to be honest, id rather not be forced to fit them.

Lowering a car can give the effect of the wheel face sitting further in & 108s can stand 15-20mm spacers even on standard springs :?
I have ran hubcentric spacers on previous V6 TT & again fitted them to the one i bought last week , without them the car sits like a mug on a saucer

He was running normal 225 and 255 non ///M sizes

Correct, 35 profile on the back, 40 on the front. Same with my 108s.

Stratts, I agree with mr wilks, it will look much better with spacers. I had spacers first, then got it lowered. My indie left the spacers on as he said that the fronts rubbed the inside of the arch on full lock without them. However with hindsight, and the experience of 224s, I would put only 10 or 12mm spacers on if I did it again.

Every car is different though, and I think my shocks weren't a million miles away from needing replaced. Lots of people drive the set-up I had with 108s and claim to get no rubbing...

Hi Bing,

I have exactly the car you had with 108s, and I was thinking of ordering 15 front, 20 mm spacers and B12 pro kit Eibach (-30 mm).
It seems, I should better order 10/12 for front. How about the rear? Would 20 mm be ok for 108s and -30 Eicach?

Thanks

OlivierH, 20mm on the rear should be fine, I got a teeny bit of rubbing on the back of the rear arch liner, driver side. If you want to play it safe go 15mm... But it won't look as good, and it really is nothing to worry about :D

ok thanks for your feedback Bing  .. Greyzed also adviced me to better go to 10 mm on front (he has 12 mm)..
I will think about 15 mm for rear, but I have got excellent prices on Eibach spacer in 20 mm so .... not easy choice

Just go 20 - if you don't like them then you will be able to sell them on here no problem. You know it makes sense

it makes sense 8) ok for the rear
I need to go buy a Wheel brace to just pop one bolt out from the front, and measure it and add the depth of the spacer, and then order the bolts with the Eibach spacers.
If am correct, bolt should be conic head M12x1.50 with head 17
Once measured, I will order either 10 or 12 :D
