Eibachs fitted, rubbing noise

Just had the springs fitted today, nothing else.

As I take a slight right turn while coasting or under slight power (I'm guessing when the nose would dive) I'm getting a non metallic rubbing noise - also happens occasionally when decelerating in a straight line. It doesn't happen permanently but in repetition in time with the wheels spinning. It doesn't affect the handling or ride but it worries me.

I think it might be the tyre rubbing against the wheel arch but that wouldn't make much sense as there is no contact at rest on a downhill slant, Eibach design these springs for the M specifically.

I'm taking it back to be looked at tomorrow first thing but I just wanted to hear proples thoughts and opinions. Anyone else had this?

I bet its the brake back plate against the disc..

They are very close, and if they have been disturbed they can rub

I had this on a previous car after getting shocks fitted. Where they had manhandled it, it was touching the disc. If its the fronts, also worth checking that the spring is seated in the shock correctly.

Hi guys

I fitted Eibachs last year when i found i had a broken rear spring, the car is slightly lower, rear rides nice but the front can be real nasty when you hit drain covers or holes in the road, no rubbing though.

You said its non metallic and not permanent so wouldn't that rule out the brake back plate (i recently got a small stone stuck between the disc and back plate on my Golf and the noise was incredible)

As your Z now sits lower do you think you may have some loose or disturbed arch liners that are now in contact???

Is it from the front or rear?

So it's not an M, but I had spacers fitted to mine then had Eibachs fitted - I expected them to take the spacers off, but they said when they did the tyre rubbed on the inside of the arch. With spacers on they rubbed on the part of the arch at the top just behind the join of the wing and the bumper. Your fronts sit just 5mm in from where mine did with spacers and 108s. Check for even slight scuffs at that point, further in next to the headlight access panel, and inside the arch. Don't underestimate how much the springs compress even under light loads - in fact as they are progressive the Eibachs should compress slightly more than OEM initially, which is why the ride is better. Under heavy load they resist more, improving handling.

Oh, and did you have a hunter alignment done after fitting ? If not then you should, will probably help...

Hey Bing, one more post and your on 19K and you said you don't come on here as much :poke:

If you meant me then my zed is an M, you saw it the Sussex meet and i have to get the alignment sorted still.

Sh1t, never be even noticed

I was talking to JJ actually, but you should get it done too !

Shan't be on here much if and when I manage to shift my car... Be too busy :driving:

I would be interested in how much they charged to change the springs having just fitted mine myself. Was really surprised at how easy the are to change on the M. Bmw don't usually seem to make things easy but they were very easy. Didn't even need spring compressors for the fronts.
Also - :worthless:
