Eibach help please

Sorry if this is going over old ground but could someone clarify please. I think my 3.osi sport coupe would benefit from lowering. I have 18" Star spokes on it, 225 front 255 rears.
When I check out the Eibach kits available, the one specific to the 3.0si states 20mm drop front 10mm drop rear. Whereas the kit for the 3.0 roadster states 30mm drop front and rear.
I think I'd rather drop it the same amount front and rear as i like the line of the car. I've measured the gaps tyre top to arch and think it would easily take a 30mm drop all round.

Does anyone have any experience? or an explanation for the differences? Is the 20mmF /10mmR drop to give a more agressive stance?

Finally, anyone dropped same model as mine have you spaced the wheels out? if so what thickness spacers have you used?

Thanks,

Al :D

I did but everyone seemed to be as unclear as I was. However, I've just re read some of the threads and think I've got me head round it. My si is already on sporty springs which are lower than standard, hence why the listed Eibach kit for mine only drops it by a further 10/ 20mm as it's already approx 15mm lower.

Anyone confirm this to be the case?

OH9000, the Eibach "Aplications 2010" manual lists the Z4's on pages 58 / 59 - you can download it from the website.
The drop values for the Z4 3.0Si coupe are listed as 30F, 20R. The part no is E10-20-010-05-22
The drop values for all Z4 roadsters (except 2.0 and M) are listed as 30F, 30R. The part no is E10-20-010-01-22

Are you using non-standard springs at the moment, or where do you get the "15mm lower" info?

I installed the Eibach springs 4 months ago on my 07 Si Coupe with sport (M) suspension and am very happy with the results. I have approx 12mm front and 7mm rear additonal drop over the oe springs. While researching, I did notice that Eibach offered two different sets based on year model, with no difference between coupe and roadsters specified.

Siener2, Hi thanks for the info. I was following an Eibach thread elsewhere on this site and it was stated there somewhere that the si sport was 15mm lower than standard. To be honest that thread got pretty confused towards the end. I know when I started this one AlanJ asked if I'd "done a search?" and to be honest I had but started this one as a kind of fresh start in the hope of a definitive answer.
But as you can see from Incompatible's reply above, there is a myriad of conflicting info. He got 12mm front and 7mm rear drop from the Eibach kit he fitted which doesn't conform to the spec you found, or the 20/10 drop on the spec I found!!

To be honest the values you found 30F, 20R would be just about perfect for me. I will give Eibach a call tomorrow.
Thanks very much for all the help :D

OH9000, you're welcome.
I would love to know how the average purchaser determines how much drop - to the mm - the spring kit actually provided .
My Eibach kit is in the mail and to be installed first week in March, so I hope to post "before" and "after" pics then.

Certainly in the UK pre-facelift 3.0SE Z4s came with sports suspension which was 15mm lower than rest of the range at the time.
Because of this if you fitted an Eibach kit to a 3.0SE the drop would be 15mm.

If you fitted the kit to either a 2.2 or 2.5 with the standard suspension the drop would be the advertised 30mm.

As far as I know when you get to post facelift the Si Sport has the M sports suspension fitted and the SE is on standard suspension.

As for measuring the drop the biggest problem with this is a lot people who have fitted the kit (myself included) have done so after the OEM rear springs broke so inadvertantly dropping the car anyway. So any measurements are a little bit vague, somewhere on the site is a list of what the standard wheel arch to wheel centre measurement should be depending on wheel size and suspension type fitted.

As I have nothing better to do I have a hunt around and fund the following.

OK the suggested BMW factory measure point is as follows:
Attach measure to rim flange at bottom middle and measure to lower edge of wheel arch. By rim size you should get:

Series (Standard)
Front Rear (MM)
16" 589 576
17" 605 592
18" 617 604
19" 630 617
20" 643 630

Sport or ///M suspension
Front Rear
16" 574 560
17" 590 576
18" 602 588
19" 615 601
20" 628 614

All should be +/- 10mm

I checked several different ages and engine sizes and the numbers came out consistent between launch and 2006. I do not know of any reason it changed in later years, but my data does not extend that far.

So there we are, series is 15mm higher at the front and 17mm higher at the rear.

Hope that makes things a little bit clearer for you.

In my case prior to measuring: start with all springs intact, parking brake off, car settled, and half tank of gas, then measured from the bottom edge of the wheel to the fender arch for all four. On mine, there was a slight height difference side to side at the rear. You will notice when the Eibach springs arrive that they are not identical heights/lengths for each end of the car, close but not identical. I measured the oe springs as they came out and positioned the Eibachs by height to correct as possible the side to side difference. Swap springs and drive around for a few weeks and repeat process. You will notice that the amount of gas in the tank will affect the rear height somewhat. For me/mine, the visual difference in ride height was subtle, but discernable.
